Flower Festival In Myanmar

Pyin Oo Lwin, (80 km – approx. 2 hours drive) lying 69 kilometers east of the second largest city of Mandalay and at over 1,000 meters above sea-level, enjoys cool and pleasant weather all year round. The flower city is well known for its colonial era-buildings, pine trees, eucalyptus and silver-oak abounding in town.

The National Kandawgyi Garden was established in 1915 and was later expanded in different eras reaching 177 hectares in 2000 which comprises lake, natural forest, observation tower and orchid, rose and bamboo gardens. Recorded 122 bird species and other mammals can be seen.

A huge flower festival will be held in Pyin Oo Lwin from 02 Dec’09 to 31 Jan’10, aim to promote tourist attraction and show the biodiversity of the National Kandawgyi Garden.

Over 200,000 plants and 15 kinds of flowers grown domestically and from 39 countries including neighboring countries will be displayed at the show. The flower will be used to design the images of animals and comic strips.



Itinerary: Day excursion From Mandalay


Early morning pick-up from hotel in Mandalay and scenic drive to the cool hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo). Visit National Kandawgyi Gardens and participate its’ flower festival. Then visit National Land-mark Garden. After that, take unique miniature stage-coaches, drawn by lively teams of horses and photo-stop around colonial-era buildings. Afternoon visit Peik Chin Myaung Cave, inside a gushing stream twists and turns around the countless images and mini-pagodas that devout Buddhists have created. Transfer back to Mandalay in the late afternoon. Overnight at hotel.

Birding In Mount Hkakaborazi National Park
Hkakaborazi National Park is one of the Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birding, birds watching tours sites that is situated on the Himalayas Mountain Range in the northern most part of Myanmar . It is very mountainous with rugged terrain and fast-flowing streams and incorporates Mt. Hkakaborazi (5,881m, snow-capped mountain), which is the highest peak in south-east Asia. It is land locked with no transportation except by footpath and by bridge made of cane across the streams. This park is covered by evergreen, hill pine and moist upper mixed deciduous forests.
According to Ward F.K (1949), over 1,000 plant species (including the 85 species of orchids), especially Myanmar endemic tree species such as Paphiopedilum wardii, Rhododendron simsii, R. delavayi, R. stewartianum and R. pruniflorum can be observed.
The area hosts many Myanmar (Burma) birds (363 birds species recorded) and rare Myanmar (Burma) mammal species such as Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Tarkin, Musk Deer, Blue Sheep, Black Barking Deer, Red Goal, Leaf Deer Muntiacus putaoensis ( Myanmar endemic), Bear, Red Panda and others.
Mt. Kakaborazi area is one of Myanmar (Burma) most interesting and exciting experiences for birds watchers. Rare montance birds such as Blood Pheasant, Common Pheasant, Blyth'sTragopan, Himalayan Monal, Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Speckled Wood Pigeon, Silver Broadbill, Yellow-billed Blue Magpie, Spotted Nutcracker, Brown Dipper, Long-tailed Thrush, Grey-winged Blackbird, Hodson's Redstart, Little Forktail, Beautiful Nuthatch, White-tailed Nuthatch, Rusty-flanked Treecreeper, Rufous-vented Tit, Coal Tit, Common Goldcrest, Yellow-bellied Bush Warbler, Grey-sided Bush Warbler, Grey-cheeked Warbler, Chestnut-crowned Warbler, Rufous-faced Warbler, Striated Laughingthrushe, Chestnut-headed Laughingthrushe, Rufous-vented Laughingthrushe, Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler, Wedge-billed Wren Babbler, Black-headed Shrike Babbler, Green Shrike Babbler, Yellow-throated Fulvetta, Rufous-throated Fulvetta, Beautiful Sibia, Rufous-vented Yuhina, Black-chined Yuhina, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Rufous-breasted Accentor, Maroon-backed Accentor, Dark-breasted Rosefinch, Dark-rumped Rosefinch, Red Crossbill, Grey-headed Bullfinch and Gold-naped Finch are possibilities.
